Geraldine Barton

Geraldine (Asplin) Barton was born in Big Flat, Arkansas, on April 17, 1928, to Lytle H. and Minnie (Johnson) Asplin. She passed away on April 15, 2025, at her home in Kellyville, Oklahoma, at the age of 96 years.

Geraldine was blessed with five sisters and one brother. She met Walter Barton when she was 10 years old, and they were married on March 13, 1945, in Salem, Arkansas, when she was 16 years old. Walter was drafted and served in World War II. He was wounded in France and returned to the United States for medical treatment.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Barton, in 2012, her daughter, Jeannie, and her parents, Lytle and Minnie Asplin.

Geraldine is survived by her sons, Walter Edward Barton, Jr and wife, Mary Elaine of Midlothian, VA, and Chester Barton and wife, Sue of Kellyville, OK; sisters-in-law, Betty Cook, Ann Cain, Diane Acklin, Carolyn Barton, and Bev Barton; brother-in-law, Glen Barton; 10 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was a very caring wife, mother, and family member. Geraldine had many friends over the years, most of whom preceded her in death. She was active in church and always had a relationship with God since her youth.

Geraldine enjoyed fishing and camping with her husband and family. She was a homemaker, spending her summers gardening, canning, and making jelly. She also spent many days quilting with her women’s church group. Geraldine was always ready to help others and enjoyed spending time with her loved ones anytime she could. She counted her blessings everyday and said, “I’ve got a roof over my head, clothes to wear, and food to eat.” When asked about her long life, she would say, “I’m just blessed.”

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View, Missouri, with George Smith officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9-10:00 a.m., also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Birch Tree, Missouri.
