James Henderson Roy was born August 18, 1935 in Alton, Missouri to Ralph and Thelma (Hall) Roy. He passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on December 22, 2023, at the age of 88.
James graduated from Alton High School in 1953. He married Earnestine “Tootsie” Forester on July 24, 1954 in Mississippi. They were blessed to spend 69 years together as a loving couple. James had many professions including owning a barber shop, a truck line, and was an engineer on the tow boats. James and Tootsie also owned and ran Roy’s Furniture store together for many years. He instilled his hard work ethic in those around him. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Mountain View and was currently a member of Mountain View Christian Church. He loved fishing and hunting. He was a big sports fan, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed watching all the kids and grandkids’ sports. He was even known to follow three sports at one time, one on the TV, one on the radio, and watching online.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Thelma; sisters, Ina Bell and Mary Dethrow; and grandson, Brandon Roy.
Survivors include his wife, Tootsie of the home; sons, Russell (Michelle) Roy of Mountain View, MO, and Scott (Annie) Roy of Mountain View, MO; daughters, Jackie (Dennis) Coulter of Willow Springs, MO, and Vickie (Harvey “Nolan”) Feldman of Springfield, MO; grandchildren, Jamie, David, Jared, Tanna, Jessica, McKaelin and Kelstin; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Mountain View Christian Church, Mountain View, Missouri, with Kent Williams officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 27 from 5-6:00 p.m. at Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View, Missouri. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mountain View.
