James “Jim” Burnice Cudney

James “Jim” B. Cudney, 92 years, 6 months, 9 days old, passed away on, April 26, 2024 at his home with family by his side.

Jim was born October 17, 1931 in Grundy County, Missouri to Burnice and Nellie (Yates) Cudney.

Jim was a Christian and a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.  He taught the adult Sunday School for many years and also served as a Deacon.   

Jim worked as a welder for Gas Service Company in Kansas City, Kansas.  Jim and his wife Erma Lee (Davis) lived there, raising their children until they retired and moved to Ava, Missouri in 1992. Jim and Erma Lee Davis were married for 50 years until her death in 2011.

On December 13, 2013, James and Vernice Berry were united in marriage at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. 

Jim enjoyed mowing grass and being on his John Deere Tractor.  He loved going to church and visiting with friends. 

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Erma; son, Craig L. Yager; grandson, John Yager; two brothers, Marvin Cudney and Robert Cudney; and sister, Eva Yates.

Jim is survived by his wife, Vernice; several children, Bruce Hill and wife, Debbie, Faynell Hill, Charles Yager, Charlotte Beattie and husband, Jim, Cindy Winslow, Christopher L. Yager, Sr., Michelle Short, Melina Hendrickson, and Melissa Fesperman; many grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; and a host other relatives and friends. 

Funeral services for Jim will be Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 10:00 AM in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, Missouri. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 AM to service time.  Burial will be in the Goodhope cemetery.  Officiating will be Pastor Buddy Boyd and Pastor Kevin Cornelius.  Memorials may be made to The Goodhope Cemetery.
