Jeffrey Barton

Jeffrey Forester Barton, 63, of Lohman, MO, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2025, in his home. Jeff was born May 21,1961, in St. Louis, MO, the son of Jim and June (Forester) Barton.

Jeff graduated from Alton High School in 1979 and joined the United States Army the same year and served until honorably discharged in 1984. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Services Ribbon and Sharpshooter Badge. Jeff worked as a Riverboat Engineer at American Commercial Barge Line. He retired in 2023 after over 20 years of dedicated service.

Jeff especially loved deer hunting, socializing with friends and family and he shared an extreme passion for music with his older brother Jimmie.

Jeff had many special people in his life. He enjoyed going back home to Alton. He enjoyed seeing his nieces, nephews, mother and father, his other brothers and his “favorite” sister.

Jeff had a special soulmate, Donna Carter. They spent many fun and enjoyable times together until Donna’s death. Jeff had a heart of gold for other people. He was very giving in his heart to many who knew him.

Remaining to cherish Jeff’s memory are brothers, Joey Barton and wife Becky of Gardner, KS; Jamie and wife Janine of Alton, MO; sister Penny and husband Keith Garrison of Springfield, MO; and loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, a whole host of friends that remember his fun spirit.

Preceding Jeff in death are his parents, Jim and June Barton, brother Jimmie Barton, a niece Portia Barton and Donna Carter, his soulmate in life.

Visitation will be held March 15, 2025, from 2pm-3pm at Clary Funeral Home in Alton, MO. Memorial services will be held March 15, 2025, at 3pm at Clary Funeral Home in Alton, with Reverend Keith Garrison officiating. Interment will be in Bailey Chapel Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States military.
