Jerry Allan Farmer, 73 of Cabool, MO died on April 27, 2022 at the Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mtn. Grove, MO . He was born February 19, 1949 in Wood River, Illinois the son of Allan and Mae (Olston) Farmer.
After High School graduation Jerry was employed at Owens-Illinois Glassworks in Alton, Illinois. There he met Donna Walls and they were married in 1968. Their daughter, Jill Carolynn was adopted as an infant in 1979.
Jerry was drafted into the U.S. Army on March 7, 1969 during the Vietnam War. Although he had orders several times to deploy to Vietnam, they were changed for various reasons and he served at Fort Hood near Killeen, Texas. Following his time in the military, Jerry worked as a policeman for the city of Alton, Illinois.
Jerry and his family moved from Alton to Cabool, Missouri in the early 1980’s. Jerry was a truck driver and also worked in maintenance.
As a young husband, Jerry became a believer in Jesus Christ. He was enthusiastic and vocal about his faith. He was active in the church, serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher in earlier years. He was gifted with a beautiful voice and sang many solos in church, for funerals and sometimes led the singing at his church. Jerry became a member of Cabool First Baptist when he moved to Cabool and later moved his membership to Mt. Pisgah Free Will Baptist Church, Cabool in 2013. He was an active member until his health failed.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Allan and Mae Farmer. He is survived by his wife, daughter and grandson, Gregory Riley. Also by his brother Mike Farmer of Wood River, Ill: sister-in law, Carolyn Brandt and husband, Garry; brothers-in-law, Keith Walls, LeRoy Walls and wife, Paula and Glen Walls and wife, Cleea all of Cabool, MO; as well as friends and church family.
