John J. Kennon, 77 year old resident of Harviell, MO departed this life following a brief battle with cancer on Thursday, January 25, 2024 in Jonesboro, AR. Mr. Kennon was born November 3, 1946, in Butler County, MO to the late Joe and Florence Medlin Kennon.
John was retired from the US Navy after 20 years of service; 1965-1985. After retiring he again retired from Nucor Yamato Steel in Blytheville, AR. He loved horses, scuba diving, and investments, and he was also a member of the Maynard Saddle Club. He also attended Second Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff.
On September 7, 2019 John and Carolyn Staten Morgan were married; she survives. Also surviving are his children, Jeff Kennon (Rae) of Blytheville, AR; Gene Kennon (Marilyn) of Blytheville, AR; Joy Belton (Steve) of Poplar Bluff, MO; Jill McGruder (Curt) of Harviell, MO; John Morgan(Aileen) of Jacksonville, FL; Sister Connie Steele (Larry) of Doniphan; Brother Larry Casteel of Doniphan; 12 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Francis officiating. Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday, and burial will be in the Johnston Chapel Cemetery.
