Virgina Kay Miller, known by family and friends as Kay, was born March 14, 1942, to Homer Christopher Bennett and Hazel Mae (Roberts) Bennett. Surrounded by her family, she passed peacefully from this life into the arms of her Savior on Friday, October 23, 2026, at the age of 84.
Kay grew up in the Solo community where she attended school through the eighth grade at Green Hill. As a child she attended Antioch church. She gave her heart to Jesus during a church revival in Elk Creek, Missouri and was baptized at Simmons Ford.
Her family later moved to Willow Springs, Missouri, where she graduated high school in 1960. After graduating, she went to work at International Shoe Company where a friend introduced her to Bob Miller. Their first date was New Year’s Eve 1963, and they were married three months later on April 12, 1963. They made their home on a farm in the Rocky Branch community that was homesteaded by Bob’s great grandfather. To this union four children were born.
Through the 70s Kay worked at the H. D. Lee factory during the winter months and stayed home with her children in the summer months. She kept a large vegetable garden and would freeze and can to feed her family. She was a talented seamstress and made clothes for her daughters. She always made sure that her children were provided for.
In 1981, Bob and Kay built a dairy barn and started milking cows. After 20 years, they retired from milking in 2001 and Kay then helped Bob raise beef cattle.
Kay was a member of the Houston Garden Club, Rocky Branch Christian Ladies group, the Golden Ages Club and attended Clara Baptist Church. She sang with the Mt. Pisgah Caravan with her brother, Dale Bennett.
She was gifted in crocheting, gardening, and creating/maintaining stunning flower gardens filled with all her favorite florals and plants. These gardens are still admired and cherished today. She crocheted angels, doilies, Christmas ornaments, snowmen, and pumpkins galore! She would also take these treasures to craft shows. These heirlooms serve as her lasting legacy and will bless the lives of friends, family, caregivers, and so many others for many years to come.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Miller, Sr., her sister Juanita Moore, brothers Dale Bennett and Homer Lee Bennett.
She is survived by two sons, Robert “Bub” and wife Regina Miller, Mark and wife Cassandra Miller, two daughters Holly and husband Glen Robertson, and Tiffany Miller, all of Houston, Missouri; six grandchildren, Megan and husband Steve Armstrong, Andrew Miller, Cassidy and Cade Robertson, Kaytlyn Huff, and Jaycee and husband Dalton Hale; and one great grandchild, Amelia Cora Jane Armstrong all of Houston, Missouri. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Joyce (Miller) Slatner of Burlington, WI, and many nieces and nephews.
Mom will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Flowers Family Cemetery located on the family’s century farm in the Rocky Branch community. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kay’s name may be made to the Flowers Family Cemetery (checks made out to Robert Miller).
