Lula Belle Dyer

Lula Belle Dyer, 87 years, 4 months, 13 days old, passed away on June 21, 2023 at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra, Illinois.

Lula was born February 8, 1936 in Douglas County, Missouri to Everett and Alta (Burden) Lakey.

Lula and Donald Dyer were united in marriage on March 3, 1956 in Ava, Missouri.  They were blessed with two sons, Tim and Steve, who have given them five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren (and one on the way).

Lula was a lifelong homemaker and substitute teacher, completing an Associates Degree in Education at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Missouri. She was a great seamstress and cook and enjoyed gardening, geneology and spending time with family.

After Don’s retirement, they moved back to Springfield to be closer to family in Douglas County, including both of their mothers. After Don’s passing, Lula moved to Highland, Illinois to be closer to her son Steve.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; and siblings, James, Boyd and Gaytha.

Lula is survived by her children and their spouses, Tim and Mary Dyer, and Steven and Kim Dyer; grandchildren, Meaghan and Blake White, Kevin and Lindsay Dyer, Nathan and Abby Dyer, Emily and Tyler Munie, and Abby and Joseph Arnold; great grandchildren, Sophie and Winnie White; Zoey, Liza, Wade and Luke Munie; and  Alec and Anna Arnold; siblings Norma Cornelison and Regina Evans.

Funeral services for Lula will be at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home Ava, Missouri on Saturday June 24, 2023 at 2 p.m. Visitation will start at 1 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Oren Alcorn. Burial will be in the Ava cemetery following the ceremony. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
