Michael Don Powell was born on August 18, 1955, to Don and Evelyn Powell, in Wichita, Kansas. He departed this life on March 3, 2021, at his home in Ozark, Missouri, at the age of 65.
Mike was united in marriage to Kerri Diane Barkley on November 23, 1974, at the United Methodist Church in Birch Tree, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife, Kerri Powell of the home; children, Brandon Powell and wife Kayla of Seymour, MO, Brittany Leesmann and husband Justin of Washington, MO, Julie Good and husband CJ of Ponca City, OK, Reyna Powell of Ozark, MO; mother, Evelyn Powell of Mission, KS; sister, Joey Davis of Branson, MO; grandchildren, Kody Leesmann, Brooke Leesmann, Bryer Good, Jessica Leesmann, Jett Good, David Powell, Rylee Good; mother-in-law, Marguerite Barkley; brother-in-law, Mark Barkley and wife Susan; sister-in-law, Angela Clevenger and husband Doug; along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mike is preceded in death by his father, Don Powell; daughter, Michaela Powell; father-in-law, Larry Barkley; brothers-in-law, Denny Barkley and Roger Davis.
In 1975 Mike began his long and successful career as a framing and siding contractor starting as a laborer. His hard work, determination, and leadership skills propelled him to running his own business, building multifamily construction projects across the U.S. Mike built his business around honest hard work and that reputation is well respected by all who worked with him.
Mike was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints. He lived life to the fullest especially loving the times he spent with family and friends. Mike enjoyed his time at Southern Missouri Off Road Ranch, pheasant hunting, and spending time on the Jacks Fork River. He was known for his quick wit, infectious smile, strong work ethic, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 8, 2021, at Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View, Missouri Chase Britton and Mark Barkley officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, March 7, 2021, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. also at the chapel. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Birch Tree, Missouri.
