Norma Jean Griffith, 90 years, and 8 months passed peacefully away on September 14, 2023 at Gainesville Health Care Center in Gainesville, Missouri with her son and daughter-in-law, David and Tracy by her side.
Norma was born February 14, 1933 in Pondfork, Missouri to Clarence and Bernie (Haskins) Sallee. Norma was a retired school teacher.
On October 12, 1951, Norma and Leslie Griffith were united in marriage in Mtn. Home, Arkansas. They were blessed with a son, David.Norma started her teaching career in a one room school house. The schools she taught the longest in were Bradleyville and Ava, Missouri. Norma received her B.S. Degree in Education from the Springfield Normal College (now known as MSU) and then a Masters Degree in Education at Drury University. Her favorite part of teaching her children was reading and writing. She was a Christian and a member of the Ava General Baptist Church.
Norma was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan! She loved road trips across the country. She enjoyed going to National Parks with her family. Norma loved cooking and looked forward to Thanksgiving so she could make her famous cornbread dressing. Norma’s joy was her family. Her faith was strong and every night she read her devotionals and shared that with her family.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Evelyn Hanoch; and her husband, Leslie in 1999.
Norma is survived by her son and his wife, David and Tracy Griffith; grandchildren; Hannah Griffith and Devin Griffith; her sisters, Imogene Ewing and Janiss Bryant; many nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation for Norma will be Monday, September 18, 2023 from 12:30 to 1:30 P.M. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, MO then follow down for graveside service at 2:30 P.M. at the Griffith Cemetery, CR 873, from Hwy. 95, Thornfield, MO. Officiating will be Pastor Tim Reese. In lieu of flowers family requests donations to Griffith Cemetery, P.O. Box 244, Thornfield, MO 65762.
