Phyllis Jean Brasser, 84-year-old resident of Doniphan, MO, departed this life Wednesday, May 22, 2024. She was born on January 6, 1940, in Anna, IL, to the late Edward and Georgia (Allen) Switzer.
Talented in many areas, Phyllis had worked as a cook and waitress while living in Indiana. After relocating to Doniphan, Phyllis was employed in a ceramic store at Poplar Bluff, MO. Later, she became a familiar face at Hancock Fabric, also in Poplar Bluff, where her passion and skill for sewing helped her assist shoppers in fabric selection and other components of sewing. She took delight in sharing her skill and love for sewing with others, especially her children and grandchildren. Phyllis also was an avid gardener and harvesting her produce led to her enjoyment of corn on the cob. Her family joked that she would serve it at every meal. An experienced and knowledgeable gardener, Phyllis could name each flower and plant.
On June 22, 1957, Phyllis married James “Jim” Brasser in Gary, IN. He preceded her in death on January 13, 2015. She was also preceded by her sisters, Linda Godderd and Sandy Kettwig, and son-in-law, James “Jimmy” Hobbs.
Surviving are her children, Wayne (Kim) Brasser of Oxly, MO, Londa “Lou” Hobbs of Doniphan, Steven Brasser, also of Doniphan, and Jeffery (Cheryl) Brasser of Ozark, MO; a sister, Debbie Gable of Indiana; and a stepbrother, Danny Holt of Ozark. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 18, great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, beginning at noon with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Justin Frances will be officiating, and burial will be in Pope Chapel Cemetery.
