Roy Edward Chaney

Roy Edward Chaney was born on August 26, 1936, in Shannon County, Missouri to Ray and Edith (Garrett) Chaney and departed this life on May 11, 2020, living a full and abundant 83 years. He was married to Geraldine (Sechrest) to which three sons were born; Danny, Denny, and Dale Chaney. He was united in marriage in 1972, to his loving wife Reva (Woodworth) adding three step-daughters; Vicki, Marsha, and Connie.

Roy worked a few different jobs during his lifetime; deputy sheriff, EMT, running a sawmill business, but logging was his longtime love. Edward, as many called him, worked hard all his life and tried to instill the same work ethic to those around him. He knew hardship from a young age and knew that to get anywhere in life, you had to work hard. Anyone who knew Ed would attest to the fact that he was always thinking about work; finding the next block of timber, dozing, or finding another truck. He was the prime example of a man who worked hard to provide for his family and included his boys in the logging business, who will carry on his name and work ethic as they continue his legacy.

He worked hard but also enjoyed the times that he and Reva would go off on their adventures, traveling to Washington where he spent time as a boy, and Oregon, but their favorite place was Colorado. They would find a road less traveled and camp out, enjoying nature and wildlife. Edward had health issues for the past few years, but they would still take time to take short drives together just enjoying the ride. That’s the real story of Edward, he enjoyed the ride!

He is survived by his loving wife and caregiver of 47 years, Reva; three sons, Danny and wife, Brenda, Denny Chaney and Dale Chaney, all of Birch Tree, MO; three step-daughters, Vicki Trask and husband, Mark, of Owasso, OK, Marsha Dale of Mountain View, MO, and Connie Kennedy and husband, Jim, of Pontotoc, MS; one sister, Helen Carroll of Purdy, MO; along with grandchildren, Brian Chaney, Sarah Chaney, Dane Chaney, Davy Chaney, Ray Chaney, Angel Chaney, Christina Emmons, Tiffany Emmons, Melanie Trask, Justin Dale, Ashley Kelly, Courtney Day, Nick Bradford, and Brandi Hudson; and 24 greatgrandchildren.

He is preceded in death by two granddaughters; Auburn and Amy Chaney; two brothers, Jim Chaney and “Bud” Chaney; three sisters, Hazel Grandstaff, Madge Sechrest, and Susie Hicks.

Roy (his smile and laugh) will be greatly missed but knowing he is on his best “ride” now and his greatest adventure is great comfort.
