Roy William Buckner was born on November 19, 1964, in Mountain View, Missouri. He was the second son of Franklin and Glenna (Denning) Buckner. He departed this life at his home in Birch Tree, with family around him, on the morning of October 31, 2022.
Roy married Janet Sechrest on July 3, 1982. To this union two children were born, Cayla Lee Buckner and Cody Franklin Buckner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Glenna Buckner; his in-laws, Levi and Leona Sechrest; a sister-in-law, Joyce Brake; a brother-in-law, Lynn A. McClurg; and his nephew, Jesse Norris.
Roy is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Janet, of the home; his son, Cody F. Buckner (Jessi); his daughter, Cayla Buckner (Josh); five grandchildren, Kolton, Colby, Kathan, Kylan, and Myah; his brother, Glenn Buckner (Cristy); his sister Marsha Norris; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other family and lots of friends. He will surely be missed.
He mostly worked all the time, but he did enjoy hunting, boat riding, riding horses, and horse camp. He cherished the memories made over the years, especially on the hunting trips up north and the skeet shooting and mud wrestling adventures.
Roy was a man of few words, but he made them clear and understood. This was especially true for his family and those who ever worked for him. Throughout his life, he worked in many different trades. He was very good at all of them. He was a genius with a gifted talent for figuring things out and making them work. We honestly believe that there wasn’t anything that he couldn’t or wouldn’t do. Those who knew Roy knew his work ethic. He would never ask anyone to do anything that he wouldn’t do himself. And he expected the same out of anyone working for him or with him.
Being PaPa was his favorite title. He loved his grandkids more than anything. There wasn’t a thing he wouldn’t do for them. Each one was special to him in their own way.
Roy accepted Jesus Christ as his savior on April 13th of this year. We take comfort in knowing that he’s home in Heaven.
A celebration of his life and memorial will be held at the Senior Center in Winona, Missouri, on his 58th birthday, Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 1:00 pm, under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Winona, Missouri. Inurnment will be at Falling Springs Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com
