Steve was a consummate musician and multi-instrumentalist. He found his love for steel guitar as the result of an industrial accident that left him being a “two-and-a-half-fingered son of a bitch”. Steve’s musical journey began at the tender age of five years. His first instrument was a set of Dixie Drums. By the age of 13 years, he was proficient at guitar and banjo. By 14 he was frequently performing on stage at neighborhood honky-tonks, with his mother in attendance, as he was underage! At age 16 he was playing guitar on the road. He returned to playing with family, in the Martin Brothers Band and with his dad and brother Terry.
Ultimately, Steve’s radio career brought him to Atlanta, where he was welcomed into the local music scene. He was revered for his dynamic, solid on-stage presence. Rockabilly, blues, country, hard rock and disco (not)…Steve could play it all. His musical genius was unparalleled.
