Stuart Wesley Somers, 76 years, and 20 days old, passed away on September 5, 2023 at home with family by his side.
Stuart was born August 15, 1947 in Cobleskill, New York to Earl Homer and Hannah Mary (Gillett) Somers.
He grew up in a farming community in upstate New York.
He was retired from working at Schoharie Central School in Schoharie, NY.
On November 11, 1985, Stuart and Zola Graham were united in marriage in Gallupville, New York.
Stuart and Zola moved to the Ava community in 1989 and started farming. He loved going out to eat with his neighbors and family at the local café. Stuart enjoyed playing dominoes, cards and scrabble with his friends and his sister, “Skip”. He loved helping people in need at anytime.
Stuart was a Christian and was recently baptized with all his family rejoicing with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Zola; siblings, Edith Guernsey, Margaret Boest, Russell Somers and Albert Sommers; and his great granddaughter, Cheyenne Dancause.
Stuart is survived by his son, Eugene Somers and wife, Christine; two grandchildren, Josephine and Isabelle; siblings, Carol “Skip” Shaw, Pauline Petteys, Arlene Stafford, Genevieve Mitchem, Douglas Somers and Johan Kodra; many nieces; nephews; grandson and granddaughter, Mike & Cassie Dancause; great great granddaughter, Hadlee Dancause and numerous friends in the community.
Memorial services for Stuart will be Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, MO with burial of his cremains by his wife, Zola in the Murray Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service at 1:30 P.M. Officiating will be Pastor Tim Reese. Family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
