Sybil Ruth Gheer, 95 years, 1 month, 24 days old, passed away on March 10, 2025, at The Neighborhoods at Quail Creek in Springfield, Missouri.
Sybil was born January 14, 1930, in Girdner, Missouri, to Evert Lee and Amanda M. (Plumb) Porter.
Sybil graduated from Ava High School in 1949 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from SMSU (MSU), a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling at SMSU and worked toward a doctorate degree from Drury University, Springfield, Missouri. She taught school for 33 ¾ years in one room and two room schools in Douglas, Ozark, and Wright counties including Pleasant Hill, Breedon, Vanzant, Skyline, and Ava, where she retired. She continued to teach Adult Basic Education for many years and was a life long supporter of 4-H.
She accepted the Lord at a young age and throughout her life she loved gospel music. She had an excellent alto voice and sang in several quartets and lead many Sunday Singings. She loved to sing and play music, which was a huge part of her life.
On January 14, 1950, she married Kenneth Schuenemann at Faith Rock Church, and to this union one daughter, Nolajean, was born.
On August 31, 1961, she married Fleming Gheer in Mansfield, Missouri.
Sybil was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Arthur Porter, Freeman Porter, also Kenneth Schuenemann, and Fleming Gheer.
Sybil is survived by her daughter and husband, Nolajean and Jerry Moyer; granddaughter, Tiffany, three great grandchildren, Jonathan, Zoe, and Laney.
Graveside services for Sybil will be Friday, March 21, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at the Murray Cemetery, Squires, Missouri. Visitation will be Thursday, March the 20th from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, Missouri.
Officiating will be Pastor Gary Thomas.
