Sylvia Nadine Hadley Daniel Craft, age 85, passed away August 12, 2026 in Columbia, Missouri. On April 29, 1941, Sylvia Nadine was born at home in Kinderpost, Missouri to her proud parents, Bertha Mae and Leslie Hadley. This tiny blessing would be known as Nadine and was welcomed by her older siblings, Herbert and Lenora.
Growing up, Nadine remembers attending Mooney Hollow, a one-room elementary school house for all eight grades. The school was heated with only a wood burning stove located in the middle of the classroom. Most days, Nadine walked three-miles home from school, unless she was fortunate enough to catch a ride.
Nadine attended her freshman, sophomore and senior years at Licking High School. She attended her junior year at John F. Hodge High School in St. James. She graduated from Licking in 1959 as the class Salutatorian.
Nadine met Charles Daniel at the Airport Truck Stop, and it was love at first sight. After their three-year courtship, they were united in marriage at the Methodist Church in Manchester, Missouri on May 7, 1960.
Nadine and Charles raised two children, Charles Mark and Steven Phillip. Sadley and unexpectedly, Charles passed away at the age of 42 with cancer, leaving Nadine to finish raising the two teenage sons alone. They shared 21 years together.
Nadine met J.R. Craft through mutual friends. J.R. didn’t want to take the place of Nadine’s first husband but wanted to make his own place in her life. They were married in 1982. J.R. had one son, John Lee Craft. The two separate families united to become one complete family.
Nadine had fond memories of growing up and going on family vacations. In her later years, she and Charles visited most of the southern and western states and a city in Mexico, Nuevo Laredo. Nadine traveled to Europe with the American Council of International Studies. She visited Germany, Austria, Italy, France and England.
In her spare time, Nadine enjoyed watching tv, reading, and listening to Joel Osteen.
Nadine wanted to share a piece of advice, “Don’t give up in a bad situation”. Nadine valued her Christian faith most in her life.
Nadine is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Bertha Hadley, son, Steven Daniel, and previous husband, Charles Mark Daniel.
She is survived by her husband, J.R. Craft; son, Mark Daniel, stepson, John Craft and wife Kim; daughter-in-law, Shannon Daniel; siblings, Herbert Hadley and wife Frankie and Lenora Chambers and husband Don; grandchildren, Cecilia Nadine Daniel Malvaez and husband Alex and Melissa Ann Jeanette Daniel McDonald and husband Ross; and nine great grandchildren.
