Terry Lee Snelling, most commonly known as Mr. Terry, was called home to be with his Lord and savior on March 29, 2025, from complications due to a heart attack. If you had the pleasure of knowing him, you would know there is no place he would rather be.
Terry received his Doctorate in Theology from Grace Bible College in 1997 and dedicated his life to bringing people closer to God. Whether he gave you a ride to church, prayed for you, told you a story, taught you, helped you find the answer from the Bible you had been looking for or you went to hear him sing or preach. He was always there to help bring you closer to God.
Terry was born to George Monroe Snelling Sr. and Shirley Fay (Kirkwood) Snelling in Lancaster, Ohio on September 15, 1955.
After graduating from Lockwood High School in 1973. Terry received his degree from Blue Bonnet Beauty School in 1975, and his Minister license in 1977. He then moved to Houston, MO and opened Mr. Terry’s Salon. Becoming forever known as Mr. Terry. This is where he met his wife, Sylvia (Moses) Snelling. They raised two daughters, Terra and Terina.
Terry’s Salon/Mr. Terry became well known for laughter and joy as well as of course a good haircut. With his extremely hyper joyful attitude he always encouraged faith, family, marriage, God and of course a free Mohawk!
Not only did he run his salon for 50 years, but he was also a pastor at Nagle Christian Church for almost 15 years and was the sole owner and creator of The Bible Museum and The Garden of God’s Word located here in Houston, MO, as well as The Chapel on the Hill where he married 102 couples.
Terry taught anger management courses from a Christian perspective at the Prison in Licking for seven years and had a tv show called In Him through a local Tv station in West Plains for seven years as well.
In his free time, if you believe he had any, he enjoyed playing his Auto Harps, singing, creating beautiful landscapes, and picking on his grandchildren.
Though he had his flaws as all men do there was no doubt, he loved his family and dedicated his life to God and helping others.
Terry always gave all the glory to God for everything he had accomplished and will be truly missed.
He is survived in death by his wife, Sylvia; their two daughters, Terra Smith, her husband Conely, and their three children, Tyler, Sabrina and Adaline of Springfield, MO, and Terina Hayes, her husband Brian and their three children, Cody, Coleton and Clayton of Houston, MO; one sister, Tina Keenum and husband Mark of Oklahoma; two brothers, George Snelling and wife Jackie of Licking, MO and Tom Snelling and wife Dorene of Houston, MO; along with many aunts, uncles, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
There was a small private family funeral held for Terry and at his request this song was played; you should listen to it sometime and remember him for all that he was: “If You Could See Me Now” by Integrity Worship Singers.
Though he is no longer with us our lives have all been changed by knowing him. Remember the laughter and beauty he brought to this world while he was here and remember how happy he now is with God and rejoice if you have accepted God as your savior, you will see him again.
