Walter Lee McClendon, 84, of Gainesville MO passed away at Gainesville Health Care Center in Gainesville, Missouri on August 21, 2022.
Walter was born on December 27, 1937, in Udall, Missouri to Woodrow McClendon and Jean (Robbins) McClendon.
Walter attended high school in Missouri. He was united in marriage to Carol Gordon on February 1st, 1957, at the age of 20.
Walter worked for the Mountain Home Telephone Company for two years during which time he was diagnosed with neuritis at age 21. After three years Walter traveled with his wife back to Illinois. They purchased a tavern and managed it for 15 years. In 1994 Walter and his family moved back to Missouri at which time Walter was working for the United States Postal Service. He retired 2001 after 24 years of service.
Walter is survived by wife Carol of Gainesville, MO; two sons Patrick McClendon of Gainesville MO, and Michael McClendon of Crane, MO; two grandchildren Jacob and Aaron McClendon; and two great grandchildren Noah and Addison.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Patricia Murphy and Peggy Shoemaker.
No services are planned at this time. The family has honored Walter’s wish for cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
