William H. “Herb” Moody, of Dexter, MO, departed this life Monday, January 29, 2024, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO, at the age of 79. He was born February 27, 1944, in Moberly, MO, to the late William A. and Anna Elizabeth (Rettinghause) Moody.
Herb was a jack of all trades. He worked for the MO Forestry Service, the mines in Arizona, and Vend-O-Matic in Dexter. He sold magazines, was a cook, a deputy sheriff, and an EMT. He retired at 62 from Tyson Foods in Dexter in 2006 after 16 years, attaining perfect attendance. His favorite hobbies were drinking coffee and going fishing. His favorite people were his daughter and grandsons, and the love of his life was going fishing with his favorite people and his son-in-law, and that was his favorite people’s favorite memory of him.
Surviving are his daughter, Crystal (Chuck) Hawkins of Dexter, MO; his grandsons, Colby Hawkins of Dexter, MO and Corey Hawkins (Hayley Williams) of St. Louis, MO; his niece, Dale (Kenny) Henderson of Rolla, MO; nephew, James Moody of Bernie, MO; his aunt, Darlene Hayes, of Sun City, AZ, and his aunt and best friend, Betty Barron, of Moberly, MO.
Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Doniphan, MO, on Friday, February 2, 2024, at noon, followed by a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery with Pastor Tim Russell officiating.
