William Lloyd Burns

William L Burns was born February 21, 1929, in Alabama to William Lafayette and Eula Mae (Bartlett) Burns. Bill Burns entered his heavenly home on March 6, 2023.

He married the love of his life, Imogene Marie Burns, to whom he was married over 50 years, and they soon moved to Mammoth Spring, where he had secured a job as an auto mechanic at the Ford dealership, to start their life together.  They raised two children, Terry and Larry, in Mammoth Spring, and after Imogene’s passing in 2010 he remarried later to Rita Burns, who still resides in Mammoth Spring.

He owned and operated Mammoth Spring Auto Service and Radio Shack for many years until his retirement in the mid 1990s.  He liked working on mechanical things and did so for many years after retiring.  He enjoyed mowing and just generally working in the yard and being outside well into his 90s, and was able to do so up until just his last few months.   He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps and had experiences there that shaped his life, his business, and resulted in many lifelong friends.  He was a member of the Mammoth Spring Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents,one brother, two sisters, and his wife Imogene. 

He is survived by his two sons, Terry and Larry Burns, and a daughter, Carol, from a very early marriage prior to joining the Marines and his marriage to Imogene several years afterward.  He is also survived by grandchildren Ryan, Aidan, and Ava, and step grand- and great-grandchildren Katlyn, Shaunda, Isaac, Peyton, Madison, Jaxon, Benson, and Barron.

A Graveside service will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 12p.m., at the Riverside Cemetery of Mammoth Springs, Arkansas. 

In lieu of flowers please send memorial contributions to the Riverside Cemetery or they may be left in the care of Carter Funeral Home.
