Balanced Effort Paces Tigers Past Bulldogs, 76-66

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri women’s basketball earned its 17th win of the season on Sunday, a 76-66 decision hosting Mississippi State. The Tigers (17-10, 6-8 SEC) have won their most games since 2018-19. The Bulldogs (15-11, 6-8 SEC) have now dropped four of their last five games.

With 14 points and 18 rebounds, junior guard Aijha Blackwell recorded her 19th double-double of the season on Sunday and the 39th of her career. She totals 332 rebounds on the season, good for third in the Mizzou all-time single-season records.

 

Mizzou started strong with five threes made in the first quarter, including 2-for-2 from junior forward Hayley Frank, and edged out MSU, 21-16, after the first quarter.

 

Halfway through the second quarter, a 3:30 scoring draught for the Bulldogs allowed the Tigers to expand their lead to 11. Mizzou encountered a 3:49 field-goal drought of their own allowing State to cut the lead to two points heading into the locker room (MIZ 34, MSU 32).

 

Seven team fouls plagued the Bulldogs in the third quarter and Mizzou went 5-of-6 from charity stripe. The Tigers entered the final quarter with a 51-42 lead. With 6:10 to play and the score tied at 55, Mizzou closed out the contest out scoring State, 21-11, including making four-of-four field goals.

 

GAME NOTES

  • Missouri’s 76 points vs. Mississippi State is its’ highest scoring output since Jan. 30, 2022 at Alabama.
  • For the first time since Feb. 28, 2021, also against Mississippi State, the Tigers had a season-high 10 steals.
  • LaDazhia Williams was honored in a pregame Senior Day ceremony. In 12 minutes played, she had three points and two rebounds.
  • Junior forward Hayley Frank (68) and junior guard Lauren Hansen (58) are on pace to be the first Mizzou teammates to hit 60+ 3-pointers in a Mizzou women’s basketball season.
  • Frank has three-straight games with double-digit points. She totals a team-leading 407 points on the season and hassled the Tigers in scoring in 10 contests.
