The Blue & Gold Tournament began on December 26, 2023, in Springfield as the West Plains Zizzers took on the Springfield-Catholic Irish in the first round. The Zizzers only win of the season was the same team as the Irish only loss, against Marshfield.
The Zizzers would get behind early in the first quarter and start a pattern that would run throughout the game of tying the score before Irish went on a run of 7 points or more. In the second period, the Zizzers would tie the score at 24 but Irish would end the half ahead at 31.
The third quarter was had less scoring than the previous two. The teams kept pace with the other, both adding 12 points on the score board. In the fourth, both teams had their best scores added to the board, 13 for West Plains and 18 for Springfield-Catholic, and that would seal the loss for the Zizzers.
The West Plains Zizzers fall to Springfield-Catholic Irish, 49 to 61. The Zizzers will play again in the consolation bracket on Wednesday, Dec. 27th, at 8 p.m.
