Brazile Has Career Night Against Illinois in Braggin’ Rights Game

ST LOUIS — In just his fourth collegiate game, freshman Trevon Brazile had a career night against a tough Illinois squad Saturday in the McBride Homes Braggin’ Rights game. The Tigers dropped the contest 88-63 against Illinois who now moves to 9-3 on the season.

Brazile topped nearly all his career bests with 11 points, 5 rebounds and six blocks. His six blocks tie for the fourth-most in a single-game in Mizzou history and are the third most by any Tiger freshman in a game. Brazile was joined in double-digits by Jarron Coleman and Kobe Brown who scored 16 and 13, respectively.

TURNING POINT

Down 29-12 with 9:16 left in the first half, Mizzou fired off a 13-2 run to pull the game within six points. The run included a total of eight points by Brown before Illinois found a way through the Tiger defense and ended the half on a 9-1 run for a 40-26 lead. Coming out of halftime, the Illini put away three quick three-pointers making it difficult for Mizzou to chip away at their lead.

GAME NOTES

  • Brazile’s six blocks are the third-most for any Mizzou freshman, behind Arthur Johnson who had an eight and seven game performance as a freshman in 2000-01.
  • Brazile is averaging nearly three blocks a game with a total of 11 on the season.
  • Coleman had a season-best 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting in addition to a pair of rebounds.
  • Saturday was Brown’s 10th double-digit game of the season and the 22nd game of his career leading Mizzou in rebounding.
  • Nine of the 12 Tigers scored at least one field goal.
