COLUMBIA, Mo. – Former University of Missouri running back Brock Olivo was enshrined into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday during a ceremony at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds in Springfield, Missouri.
Olivo, MU’s current special teams assistant, lettered four seasons (1994-95-96-97) with the Tigers and graduated as the school’s program record holder in rushing yards (3,026), rushing touchdowns (27) and all-purpose yards (3,475). He also added 188 career points to rank fourth on Mizzou’s all-time list. Olivo led the team in rushing in three of his four seasons (1994-95-96) in Columbia and helped the Tigers to their first postseason appearance since 1983 after a Holiday Bowl showing in 1997.
The Washington, Missouri, native was named the 1994 Big Eight Conference Offensive Freshman of the Year before earning two-time All-Big 12 Conference recognition in 1996 and 1997. Additionally, he won the Mosi Tatupu National Special Teams Player of the Year Award in 1997, making him the first Tiger to win a national individual award in program history. The 1997 team captain rushed for 200-plus yards in a single game twice during his Mizzou tenure, including a career-best 222 yards on 38 carries against Louisiana Monroe, formerly Northeast Louisiana, in 1995.
After going undrafted, Olivo played four seasons (1998-99-2000-01) in the National Football League (NFL) for the Detroit Lions, seeing action mostly on special teams in 44 career games. After his playing career, Olivo spent time coaching football in Italy before stints at the collegiate level (Coastal Carolina and Washington University) and NFL (Kansas City, Denver and Chicago).
Olivo had his Missouri jersey No. 27 retired and was inducted into the MU Ring of Honor in 2003.
He’s been on head coach Eliah Drinkwitz‘s staff since 2023.
