Cardinals send Dylan Carlson to Tampa, Royals get DeJong at trade deadline

The St. Louis Cardinals are bolstering their bullpen. The team received reliever Shawn Armstrong in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays just before last night’s trade deadline. The Cardinals sent outfielder Dylan Carlson to Tampa Bay to complete the deal. Armstrong is 2-and-2 with a 5.40 ERA in 46-and-two-thirds innings this season, but he put up a 1.38 ERA in 2023.

The Royals are bolstering their lineup with a proven slugger at the trade deadline. Kansas City has acquired shortstop Paul DeJong [[ de-YUNG ]] from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor league pitcher Jarold Rosado. The 30-year-old DeJong has 18 home runs and 41 RBIs through 102 games played this season. The Royals also added right-handed reliever Lucas Erceg [[ ERR-seg ]] from the Oakland Athletics before the deadline. Erceg is 2-and-3 with a 3.68 ERA and three saves through 38 appearances this season. They will send pitchers Mason Barnett and Will Klein and outfielder Jared Dickey back to Oakland to complete the deal.
