Chiefs trim roster to 53

(Kansas City, MO) — The Chiefs are moving on from one of their offensive playmakers. Kansas City has cut wide receiver Kadarius Toney at the NFL’s deadline to trim rosters to 53 players on Tuesday. Toney’s tenure in Kansas City will be remembered most for his performance during the team’s Super Bowl 57 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. He totaled 41 catches for 340 yards and three touchdowns through 20 games with the Chiefs over the past two seasons. In another move, the Chiefs traded a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for tight end Peyton Hendershot. They also sent a 2025 seventh-round selection to the Arizona Cardinals for defensive end Cameron Thomas.

Among the moves, Kansas City released safety Deon Bush, linebacker Cole Christiansen, defensive tackle Matt Dickerson and tight end Irv Smith Jr. The team also placed defensive end Charles Omenihu on the PUP list and defensive end B.J. Thompson on the non-football injury list. In other news, star tight end Travis Kelce has bought an ownership stake in a racehorse named Swift Delivery. The Chiefs host the Baltimore Ravens in their season opener on September 5th.
