The West Plains R-VII School District is pleased to announce Christy Otter has been named the West Plains High School girls’ head basketball coach. To help build relationships with her athletes, Otter will begin open gyms, summer contact days, and basketball camps before she officially begins her position on July 1, 2024.
Otter is the administrator of OtterBasketball, a basketball training company she co-owns with her husband, Jason. She also served as the Glendale assistant varsity and head girls’ junior varsity basketball coach from 2004 to 2010 and coached 8th grade students at Pershing Middle School during the same time period. Her collegiate basketball experience as the point guard for Crowder College Women’s Basketball from 1995 to 1996 further underscores her passion for the game.
District Activities Director Dr. Ashley Cooley says, “Otter’s love for the sport and her care and concern for the players add to West Plains’ tradition of success both on the court and in the classroom. Otter will be a great addition to the head coaching staff at West Plains.”
“I am incredibly excited to take on the role of head girls’ basketball coach at the West Plains High School. I respect the history, tradition, and success of the athletics program and admire the district’s commitment to the educational development of its student-athletes,” says Otter.
As part of the introduction to the community, a Meet the Coach event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 24th, at 5:30 p.m. in the West Plains High School commons area, located near the high school cafeteria. This event offers an excellent opportunity for middle school and high school athletes and their families to connect with Coach Otter.
