The lady zizzers placed second overall and the boys were 6th. Overall, it was a very good weekend for the cross country teams. The Joplin Missouri Southern Stampede is a big race with good competition. We had a lot of bright spots and ran strong team races.
The girls were beaten by Cor Jesu who was second to us last year at the State Meet. They are a tough team but this loss will only motivate us to get a little better in a few key areas. Jayna Gunter was one of the runners of the day, stepping up and running the one spot when her team needed her to. Kaylee Lambe and Addison Sanders ran tough and earned their candy stripes which make the Varsity Girls have 8 runners. The Candy Stripes is a coveted uniform of the Zizzer Cross Country team started many years ago by longtime coach Joe Bill Dixon. They are earned not given and that makes them even more special.
The young inexperienced boy’s team is coming along nicely. They are getting better as a team each week and running stronger together. They were 6th overall in a large field. They too gained two new candy stripers in Freshmen Hoyt Stiner and Kyler Gunter. This is a great Freshman class with 4 boys making an immediate impact on the team. This gives them 6 team members who have earned their stripes this season. Our goal is to get better each week, to get stronger individually so we can be better as a team.
Next up–West Plains Zizzers travel to Kentucky to the Marshall County Invitational next weekend.
