D’backs 5, Royals 4

Nick Ahmed hit a slow roller up the first base side to score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Diamondbacks clipped the Royals 5-4 in Phoenix. Pavin Smith and Geraldo Perdomo both had two hits and an RBI for the Snakes, who sit alone atop the NL West at 13-and-11. Andrew Chafin was credited with the win. Aroldis Chapman served up the go-ahead run in the eighth to take the loss. Brad Keller allowed four runs in a shaky start. Edward Olivares homered and Salvador Perez drove in two runs for KC, which has dropped nine of its last 10 games.
