The West Plains Lady Zizzers played in their pink out match versus the 16-2, Doniphan Lady Donettes on Thursday night, February 6th, 2025. The Donettes were fierce free-throw competitors and outscored the Lady Zizzers by a final score of 67-55.
Summary:
1st Quarter: Tip won by the Lady Zizzers, ball passed from Ainsley Mcwilliams to Gillian Green who puts the Zizzers up on the board. They rebound it and one more Green before ball gets goes to the Lady Donnets for their first possession of the night. They will tie the game at 4-4 after a two pointer by Madilyn Redus and a scoop shot by Sarah Owen. Ball goes back to the Lady Zizzers and a three pointer by Zoe Scharnhorst. Evened up with another three by Owen for the Donnettes, but a personal foul on Madilyn Redus and Gillian Green shoots two free throws. Owen has it again for the Lady Zizzers who scores her fourth point of the game to tie the Game at ten points. Doniphan’s weakness so far is turnovers and this is allowing the Lady Zizzers to cash in on some easy shots and steals. Another one as Shaylee Peterson steals the pall and puts shoots the long three and bringing the game back to a three point deficit. Another tie up as a foul call and bucket by Ellie White as Lady Zizzers now have their fourth turnover of the game. Doniphan has not slowed down yet on fouls as the two minute mark approaches as Shaylee Peterson shoots two good free throws. Donnettes make their fourth turnover and another dunk by Gillian Green who is making up for her slow scoring night in Tuesday night’s game against the Rogersville Lady Wildcats. Lady Zizzers made good use of the free throw lines as Peterson shot two more free throws as well as two more by Ainsley Mcwilliams with 42 seconds to go in the first eight minutes. Quarter ends with Lady Zizzers leading by two, 20-18.
2nd Quarter: The Donettes jump forward by six after a three by Lillyan Knight and a trip to the line by Madilyn Redus. Finally another three by Zoe Schrubb brings the game back to one point, Lady Zizzers will now stretch out to a man to man defense. Another three by Zoe Schrubb and the Lady Zizzers are now up by two, 28-26 but a foul call on the next shot and one free thrown by Redus brings the Donettes back within one. Lady Zizzers will keep the ball as they are able to get the Donettes to turn over the ball once more and commit at least two more fouls. Donettes who are still up by five points have now turned over the ball several times as Green shoots in another layup to bring the Lady Zizzers back within two. Lady Zizzers have ten turnovers but are able particularly in the last few minutes of the half, prevent the Donettes from making shots that would’ve otherwise kept them down by as many as ten.
HALFTIME- Doniphan Lady Donettes: 32/ Lady Zizzers: 30
3rd Quarter: Lady Zizzers have the ball to start the second half. A turnover and double dribble brings the Lady Zizzers to their eleventh turnovers. Out of bounds by the Donettes and it will be Lady Zizzer Basketball. Both teams lose it out of bounds one time and finally, Zizzers back with it. A three attempt by Ainsley Mcwilliams is no good and will go back to the Donettes. Donettes seek to take the ball on an aggressive run and play clock. And to their advantage, another foul on Shaylee Peterson for the Lady Zizzers. Two more free throws by Donette, Sarah Owen brings the lead back up to six points. Foul on the next possession for the Donettes and two free throws by Glilian Green, they will now trail by five, 36-32. Zoe Scharnhorst with a three pointer for the Lady Zizzers as for a minute they look to slip back into foul trouble. Zoe gets a foul on the play and two more free throws by Sarah Owen for the Donettes. It’s still a five point Game, 40-35. But stolen and another layup is good by Zoe Scharnhorst, now 40-37. Lady Zizzers now being forced to play some heavier defense and now have about sixteen turnovers in the game as Carsyn Haygood shoots two more for the Donettes. Haygood & Owen areable to bring the Donettes within seven before a cut to the basket by Shaylee Peterson for the Lady Zizzers. Peterson also gets one free-throw, which she makes. The Zizzers are down by four, 42- 46 to end the Third.
4th Quarter: Steal at mid-court as Donettes turn it over and they will pick up a team foul. Ball will go out of bounds on the next Lady Zizzer possession and will go back to the Lady Donettes. Madilyn Redus will look for an open end and shoot and score for the jumper plus three free throws as the Donettes go back up by seven. And another foul call on the Lady Zizzers as Sarah Owen puts the Donettes up by nine now with 6:37 to go. Three ball by Zoe Scharnhorst, her eighth of the night cuts the lead back down to eight points with under 5 minutes to go. Donettes try to score but turns the ball over for the fourteenth time, several behind the at least seventeen had by the Lady Zizzers. Ball goes back to the Lady Zizzers and another three by Zoe Schrubb. Lady Donettes continue to turn over the ball but still having luck with fouling the Lady Zizzers as Madilyn Redus shoots two more free throws, making thirteen total made free throws in the half for the Donettes. Lady Zizzers are able to knock it back down to eight after a three pointer by Junior, Jewlia Willard. Donettes however continued to dominate even in the last sixty seconds and win by a final score of 67-55.
