ROLLA, Mo.- The Drury Panthers swept Missouri S&T in a doubleheader on Saturday to raise their Great Lakes Valley Conference record to 7-1. Drury won game one 10-0 in five innings, then took the second game 12-2 in six innings.
The Panthers ended the day with a 13-6 record and are winners of seven of their first eight league games. Missouri S&T fell to 4-16 and 4-6 in the league.
In game one, the Panthers took command with five runs in the first inning, and they added three more in the second on their way to a 10-0 win in five innings.
Drury sent 11 batters to the plate in the opening frame, getting RBI-hits from Kim Mathis, Lauren Beier, Abbey McAteer, and a bases-loaded walk from Abby Tiemann. The Panthers took an 8-0 lead an inning later with three runs in the frame, starting with a lead-off home run from Beier.
Rylee Kolb’s two-RBI double in the top of the fifth gave Drury a 10-0, and Drury pitching kept the Miners off of the board to preserve the shutout.
In addition to going 2 for 4 at the plate with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI’s, Beier was the winning pitcher going four innings, allowing no runs on four hits to improve to 5-1.
Drury picked up where they left off in game two, scoring six runs in the opening frame. Kylee Kolb and Devin Hale both had two-RBI hits in the inning. The Panthers also scored a run on a wild pitch, and Hannah Chambliss produced another run with a bunt.
Drury held off Missouri S&T and built a 10-run lead in the sixth on a two-run homer by Abbey McAteer.
Devin Hale with 3 for 3 in game, two with a double, three runs scored, and two RBI’s. Chambliss had three RBI’s in the game, going 1 for 1 with a stolen base.
The Panthers return to action on Sunday when they take on Maryville for a doubleheader starting at noon in St. Louis.
