The Liberty Eagles traveled to Miller, Missouri this last Friday night for Week 2 of the 2026-2027 High School Football Season to take on the 1-0, Miller Cardinals as The Eagles also bear the same record after a smooth victory over the Scott City, Chaffee Rams in Week 1.
Eagles faced tough defense from the Cardinals but denied them all the way up until the end and win the ballgame in a low scoring matchup of only 14-6.
1st Quarter: Eagles score first as Rams put up some resistance but Senior Jasper Melby gets the ball in for about 17 yards to take the lead 8-0. On defense; Miller Cardinals don’t make it before ball is stolen by Junior Roger Haeffner. On next set for Cardinals, Miller offense picks up some stride as Junior Charlie Langston scores for the Cardinals but no addition action as Eagles lead The Cardinals, 14-6 after one.
2nd Quarter: Eagles force the Cardinals to punt the football as offense starts to dwindle. While Eagles try to get some success on downs in following sets. Wyatt Cox nearly intercepts the football as the half ends.
HALFTIME– Liberty Eagles: 14/ Miller Cardinals: 6
Second Half Liberty Eagles fighting a fast Miler Cardinals defense. Cox still getting quite a few gains and finally a Quarterback sack by Senior Preston Smothers. It is not till midway the fourth until Liberty gets anywhere close to the In-Zone barely. Roger Haeffner nearly makes it past the Miller guard and in again but its short and Liberty is forced to punt.
After this punt; Liberty continues to hold off the Cardinal defense who continue to keep making it to 1st and 10 but never make it through.
Liberty holds off the Cardinals and wins the ballgame by a Final of 14-6
This coming Friday night: Eagles will begin SCA play as they face the 1-1, Thayer Bobcats on their home field.
