SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Evangel University volleyball team was honored for its outstanding academic performance by the America Volleyball Coaches Association.
EU Volleyball was recognized not only as an All-American Academic team, but as an Honor Roll team as well. To receive this award, teams must rank in the top 20 percentile for GPA of all teams nationally. Of the 15 teams that were named an Honor Roll team, three of them came from the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Evangel, Mount Mercy, Park).
This marks the fifth national award since 2015 for the Evangel volleyball team as they were honored for achieving a minimum of a 3.3 GPA during the 2020-21 academic year.
“We have a team that works extremely hard on the floor and in the classroom,” EU Volleyball head coach Mary Whitehead stated. “This honor reflects that. Our team strives for excellence in all areas of being a student athlete and I’m incredibly proud that we’ve achieved it in the classroom.”
The United State Marine Corps (USMC) and the AVCA announced that 1,281 teams have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2020 season.
