The Missouri State West Plains faced the high- scoring Northeast Mississippi Tigers on Friday Night, November 22nd, 2024. While Grizzlies had a two-point lead at the half, they fell 66-60 as the Final Score.
1st Half: First bucket of the night by #33 Lionel Kiumwimba after a pass from Ergie Kougnami. #0 Javion Stephen with a three ball from the far side for the Tigers. Early score 5-2 as #5, Josh Holman shoots two for the Tigers, who to no surprise are on the way to averaging their normal high scoring act as demonstrated in previous games. The Northeast Tigers are said to average at least 108 points a game. Grizzlies biggest obstacle thus far is trying not to foul as the Tigers seem to be supplying a large amount of pressure on defense. Northeast does not turn over the ball until around fifteen to go. This is short lived and the Grizzlies aren’t able to do much within it except try a three off of #12 Ergie Kougnami, but doesn’t make it. Ball goes back to the Northeast Tigers. Grizzlies are having some success on free-throws as Javian Downey makes two out of two. On rebound, a good three by #1, Ryan Richardson. #3, Jonathan White gets off a shot just before the shot clock sounds on a steal and suddenly, The Grizzlies are able to take a two point lead. Javian Downey is able to pull off a three from the far side for the Grizzlies as the lead goes up to a six point lead. Tigers are fighting back though as pressure is applied by #5, Holman & #1 Landon Jefferies. Tigers tie it up at 17 as Jeffries shoots the three. After some more easy shots by Jeffries & Holman, Tigers take back a two point lead with under eight minutes to go in the half. Game ties back up at 21 as #15, Zaheem Jackson shoots 2-2 for the Grizzlies. As the Tigers keep on stealing lead, Zaheem leads with the task of keeping the Grizzlies on a close trail. To the Grizzlies advantage, the Tigers continue to hold more team fouls. Downey shoots 2-2 for the Grizzlies bringing them to within five points and a jump shot on rebound by Shaun Glass. Score flips back and forth between a one to two point lead for the Tigers as Grizzlies continue to make point on free-throws but turn the ball back on bounds. Zaheem Jackson continues to tie the game up at the throw line and overall, Grizzlies are 15-16 at the throw line thus far.
At the Half; Grizzlies are able to take the lead 38-36
2nd Half: Tigers steal the ball early in the half. Grizzlies do however attack the basket and Ergie Kougnami scores on a jumper. Once again, Tigers and Grizzlies are tied this time at 40 points. Javian Downey shoots 1-2 for the Grizzlies at the throw line. On rebounds, Jeffries steals it for the tigers and shoots the three. Grizzlies try to rally back as another trip to the line allows Downey to shoot two more. Another jumper by Jeffries for the Tigers and Score is 48-43. #10, Stephon Thomas shoots a wide open three for the Tigers bringing the lead to nine, 52-43. Blayne Harris and Ryan Richardson are able to pull the Grizzlies out of the 43 point lead with two buckets a piece. A slick shot by Harris before he is nearly blocked by #4 Michael Johnson for the Tigers. As the Grizzlies begin to feel the pressure, it is obvious they are beginning to take more advantage of their rebounds. While a lot of shots aren’t falling, there appears to be more forced turnovers in this game versus the previous game versus the ASU-Newport Aviators. If anything, NE Miss is outplaying the Grizzlies substantially at defense. And a wide open layup by Blayne Harris, and suddenly the Score is 57-54 with just 4:20 to go. Jeffries steals it away for the Tigers and gets a chance to shoot two. Shaun Glass is able to make it a five point game with under a minute to go. With 40 seconds to go, both teams shoot a series of free throws; Landon Jeffries with 2-2 & 1-2 for Ergie Kougnami. Grizzlies try for last good shot towards the last 15 sec. They even take a time out with about 9.6 seconds to go but simply forced turnovers have created too big of a hole. Rashid shoots two for the Tigers to close it out
FINAL SCORE: NE MISS. Tigers: 66/ MSU-WP Grizzlies: 60
