The Missouri State West Plains Grizzly Basketball team traveled to the Libla Family Sports Complex on the Campus of Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff, MO on Saturday, January 11th to take on the Raiders. This game follows the mind-blowing match from this past Wednesday night when the Grizzlies faced the Mineral Area Cardinals for their Regional season opener. While the Grizzlies had a strong start to the ballgame, they fell to the raiders by a score of 77-56.
1st Half: Raiders take off on a run, a lay in and good rebound to make the first two points. Stolen back by Grizzlies who tie up the ball game with a lay-in by #33, Lionel Kiumwimba. Ryan Richardson goes to the line in hopes to continue his good free throw shooting act as he exhibited during Wednesday’s game. Richardson makes 1-2 from the line. #5 Shaun Glass is able to give a one point lead as he shoots the first three pointer of the game. This follows another good bucket by #4, Pelyron for Three Rivers. Grizzlies are so far getting good chances to captizlize on this, particularly for Shaun Glass. To the Grizzlies’ benefit, Raiders have already made at least two turnovers. #12, Ergie Kougnami gets a chance to shoot a good set of two free throws and a good rebound as Grizzlies are able to hold onto the ball. #20 Blayne Harris also with two good free throws as the team now has a seven point lead, 17-10 with under thirteen minutes to go, #11, White & #2, Hampton score for the Raiders as Grizzlies are still able to maintain the bonus in the first half. However, Game is tied back up with two free throws by #14, William Patterson for the Grizzlies. #11, Demitrus White also contributes to giving Three Rivers a two point lead with 8:33 to go. Shaun Glass who remains the leading scorer during the half comes out for a bit. Strategically, this allows some good defensive play by #13, Ethan Smith. Raiders steal the lead back once in with the final four minutes to go. Grizzlies are able to continue looking for ways to foul as #2, Riley Whitacker gets his first two points at the line plus a two hander. Free throw shooting continues to be the contender for the Grizzlies as Richardson is able to bring the Grizzlies up by one at the Half, by a score of 29-28
*The Grizzlies were 25% shooting from the field during the first half.
2nd Half: Raiders go back up by two as #34, Sikou Diagorogua scores by two. What has yet to change is the Raiders’ ability to foul in the second half. This Gives #20, Blayne Harris the opportunity to shoot three and bring the Grizzlies back up by two. Raiders take it back and #20, Alexander scores on a three pointer. Grizzlies do come within four as Harris scores three more. Following, by #12 Wallace for the Raiders. Raiders go on a bit of a run as the next five or so minutes progress. Wallace continues to score for the Raiders and well as Malek. A three pointer by #13, Ethan Smith which cut the Grizzly trail from thirteen to eleven with under seven minutes to go. Grizzlies are now on the verge of perhaps more fouls in the second half as Raiders appear to score even more at the throw line.
