The Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzlies hosted the Three Rivers Raiders at the West Plains Civic Center on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024. This was expected to be a close game and those expectations proved to be verified as the game ended in overtime.
The first half of regulation play saw both teams keeping close in score but, the Grizzlies would trail as halftime approached and the Raiders would lead with a 4-point lead. The halftime score was MSU-West Plains 24, Three Rivers 28.
The Raiders would pull away from the Grizzlies early in the third with a double-digit lead. The Grizzlies toughed it out, closing the gap to a single point with less than two minutes left in regulation play. Between free throws and quicking thinking on part of the Grizzlies, regulation play would end with the score tied at 62.
In overtime, the teams had 5 minutes to get the highest score and neither team was slouching in that pursuit. The final 6 seconds of overtime were very tense as the score kept tipping between the Grizzlies and the Raiders but, a successful field goal by Three Rivers with less than 2 seconds would secure their victory.
The Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzlies fall in overtime to the Three Rivers Raiders with a score of 72 to 73. The Grizzlies face an uphill game next Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, as they host the Moberly Greyhounds at the West Plains Civic Center.
