This Past Saturday: The Missouri State West Plains Grizzly Basketball team played their second game in the Burlington Southeastern “Culver Classic Tournament” against the Tournament’s host team.
1st Half: Tip is controlled by #34, Grant for the Blackhawks. Ball gets down to #15, Zaheem Jackson for the Grizzlies who scores on a nice jump shot off the right wing. Blackhawks try to go for three but miss it. A jump shot is good by #11, Inslee Carroll for the Blackhawks. Up and in by #33 Lionel Kiumwimba. Score is now 4-2, Grizzlies have the lead. A good three by #13, Ethan Smith for the Grizzlies. A good three by Carroll for the Blackhawks as the game is now tied 4-4. Carroll tries another three as the Blackhawks take a few more trips down the court, but doesn’t make. It. Blackhawks will pick up their first foul. #21, Lewis ends up making a three for the Blackhawks. #13, Smith for the Grizzlies scores on a layup, And as the Blackhawks score again, the lead is slowly getting away from the Grizzlies. #1, Ryan Richardson tries a three for the Grizzlies but it goes out of bounds. Another Three for the Blackhawks brings the lead to 19-7 as #10, Shamar Avance scores for the Blackhawks. Grizzlies do make a few scores at the free-throw line as #11, Javian Downey scores two more points. Blackhawks now have a ten point lead. Inslee Carroll scores two at the free-throw line for the Blackhawks. Lead is now 21-9. Two more scored by Downey. #33, Lionel Kiumbwimba stands guard and gets a free throw attempt who brings the score to 23-12, Blackhawks still with the lead as there is about 10:06 to go. Second three pointer for Avance for the Blackhawks which brings the lead to 28-12 with 8:50 to go. Blackhawks have now outscored the Grizzlies 21-5. Shon Glass scores on two three pointers for the Grizzlies bringing the Grizzlies within ten points of the Blackhawk lead. Blackhawks almost begin to almost match Grizzlies in amount of turnovers as we near the 6:50 mark. #11, Carroll scores again for the Blackhawks on a good jumper bringing the score to 32-18.With 5:00 to go, some nice defense from #10 Jake Sage as well as #1, Richardson for the Grizzlies. Though the Blackhawks do have a few fouls, the main threat posed to the Grizzlies are three pointers, as #34, Grant scores on another three pointer.#10 Jake Sage who scored 17 points in yesterday’s game is making up by giving the Grizzlies some luck at the free throw line. #15, Zaheem Jackson also getting some better luck for the Jackson as the lead is now 37-24 by the Blackhawks. Grizzlies looking to get the lead down to ten and they do as #15, Jackson also shoots good. Avance for the Blackhawks scores on another two and gives Grizzlies some things to think about going into the half.
HALFTIME- Burlington Blackhawks: 40/ MSU-WP Grizzlies: 24
2nd Half; Both Carroll & Avance for the Blackhawks continue to score each on two pointers. Jackson for the Grizzlies also scores on a two. Carroll also has great strides at the Free throw line. Grizzlies are able to get within about thirteen points of the Blackhawks as Downey and Jackson get some good jump shots. As Blackhawks go up by seven more points, Grizzlies are desperate to get some more three pointers as #21, Lewis & #34, Grant stand guard. Blackhawks currently have four fouls; Grizzlies have three. #1, Sullivan for the Blackhawks gets some good put-back action in the second half as he puts in several good baskets off turnovers for the Grizzlies. Nonetheless, the story of the game once again is turnovers for the Grizzlies, as this is allowing good coverage for the Blackhawks underneath. #4, Jalen Hooks also proves the same as he breaks through multiple Grizzly defenders. The current number of turnovers for the Grizzlies is nine. #12, Ergie Kougnami, scores about 3 points, adding to his six points overall in the game. Blackhawks lead by about 18 points midway through the game. As time gets down two about 2:40, Smith for the Grizzlies scores one on a good free throw attempt; the lead is now over 20 points for the Blackhawks.
