Jared Phay, head coach of the Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) Grizzly Basketball team, today announced the signing of two players for the 2023-2024 season.
They are Calvin Marshall, a 6-foot, 6-inch forward, and Ergie Khounami, a 6-foot, 4-inch wing. Both are from Detroit, Michigan, and played for Western International High School in Detroit.
More about Calvin Marshall
Marshall, a 2022 graduate of Western International, averaged 22.5 points a game and helped lead the Cowboys to a district championship. He was a career 1,000-point scorer for Cowboys Head Coach Jermaine Kilbourn and was a teammate of current Grizzly guard Kyle Germany.
Marshall chose to attend Middlebrooks Academy, a national powerhouse in the prep school ranks, this past season in Los Angeles, California.
“Calvin is a well-known player in Michigan,” Phay said. “He has a lot of size and strength and can play multiple positions. He shoots the ball very well, but he has the size to score down low.”
More about Ergie Khounami
Khounami averaged 18.4 points and five rebounds per game for the Cowboys this past season.
“Ergie is a strong, athletic wing who has a strong work ethic,” Phay said.
Phay and his coaching staff continue to hit the recruiting trail. “Overall, we have a good group returning, and we needed to add size and athleticism. Signing these two guys is a great start for us,” the coach said.
