WEST PLAINS, Mo. – The Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) Grizzly Softball team posted a 1-1 record this past weekend in games at Lyon Field in Batesville, Arkansas.
The Grizzlies (9-7-1) defeated Arkansas State University-Three Rivers 2-1 Saturday, Oct. 14, but fell to the hosting Lyon College Scots 5-8.
Against ASU-Three Rivers
The game against the Eagles turned into a tough pitching battle, but freshman pitcher Jordyn Foley, Ozark, picked up the win for the Grizzlies. In seven innings of work, she allowed five hits and one earned run while fanning four batters.
Offensively, the Grizzlies were led by freshman Kennedy Cogdill, East Prairie, who went 2-3 at the plate with two singles and a run scored. Foley also hit a single in her two at bats and scored a run. Freshman catcher Brydon Maddox, Malden, also went 1-2 at the plate with a single and an RBI. Sophomore infielder Kenzie Massey hit a single in four at bats and recorded an RBI and a stolen base.
Against Lyon College
Massey led the offensive charge for the Grizzlies against Lyon. She hit a triple in her two at bats against the Scots and scored two runs. She also picked up another stolen base. Freshman Lexie Gastineau, Ava, hit a single in her three at bats and scored a run.
Freshman Brooklyn Hasler picked up an RBI on her single, and freshman Sydney Myler scored a run and recorded an RBI. Freshman Zoey Williams, West Plains recorded two RBIs in the contest.
Cogdill started on the mound for the Grizzlies. In three-and-a-third innings, she gave up three hits and four earned runs while striking out two batters.
Hasler finished the game and gave up one hit in one-and-two-thirds innings work.
Next up
The Grizzlies will host Arkansas State University-Mountain Home Wednesday, Oct. 18, for a double header. Games start at 2 and 4 p.m.
