The Liberty Mtn- View Eagles faced the Hartville Eagles this Friday night; January 3rd, 2025. This was Liberty’s latest game post facing the Norwood Pirates in the Championship Game of the Cabool Holiday Tournament in which Norwood won by a Score of 53-50.
1st Quarter: Tip controlled by Hartville. An easy bucket by Jackson Ward for Hartville draws up a 2-0 lead. A tie up between Parker Tune for Liberty & Harmon Johns for Hartville gives the ball to Liberty. A deep three pointer by Boone Garrison for Hartville as Liberty loses the ball out of bounds. The first three pointer for Liberty is shot by Parker Tune and Liberty comes onto the board trailing by two. With under two minutes to go, A two hander by Mason Cogdill for Hartville adds two more and a 7-3 lead. Another three right by Cogdill right before the buzzer and Hartville leads at the end of the Quarter, 12-3.
2nd Quarter: Liberty tries for a shot at a basket and finally, Gavin Reese with an easy two- hander. Rebound Harmon Johns scores on another three, this follows a foul and two free throws for Parker Tune and a rebound by Boone Garrison who scores on another three for Hartville. The fight back and a three by Brayden Mays evens the score to a five -point game as Hartville leads 14-10. Hartville continues to cash in on Three pointers. Garrison with two more three pointers. Liberty however is trying hard to beat Hartville on rebounds.
HALFTIME- Hartville Eagles: 22/ Liberty Eagles: 17
3rd Quarter: Liberty tries for a block but are unsuccessful as Cogdill scores on another three for Hartville. Both teams continue to play solid defense while looking for open shots. Liberty has tried to shoot threes the entire first half but not having much luck. Finally Gavin Reese scores on a three pointer and brings Liberty now within seven points of the Hartville lead. Rebound by Boone Garrison who scores his ninth point of the night with yet another three pointer for Hartville. Garrison gets his own rebound and puts it up and in for two more. Ball goes out of bounds before Liberty can rebound it, possession goes back to Hartville. Ball gets down to Johns for Hartville who scores on another three pointer. Hartville now leads by as many as fifteen. Liberty only scores three points in the third quarter as they trail Hartville by a score of 37-20.
4th Quarter: Liberty picks up two fouls to begin the 4th Quarter which gives Mason Cogdill the chance to shoot two for Hartville and bring the lead up to twenty points. Hartville continues to contest Liberty with the three- ball. Liberty only manages to score a total of seven points during the Quarter.
FINAL SCORE: Hartville Eagles: 55/ Liberty Eagles: 24
Liberty Boys will travel to Licking next Friday night, Game time 7:30
