High School Student Breaks Track Record From 1965

An 18-year-old Pennsylvania high school student is breaking track records with his sub-4-minute mile. His time of 3:57.98 at the Catholic League championships over the weekend was 15 seconds short of the current world record but was still enough to topple several other records.

His run was the fastest time in state history and the fifth-fastest ever for a high school runner. The time was also the fastest time in a high-school-only race, breaking the 3:58.3 record set by Olympian Jim Ryun in 1965.

The teen will run at the University of Virginia this fall.
