Houston Falls in Defensive Battle

Houston traveled for just the second time this year, visiting the Bobcats of Thayer. The first quarter teams traded punts and turnovers. Thayer started to get their rushing attack working near the end of the quarter. They used two long runs to score with about three minutes left. The two point conversion was not good and they lead 6-0 after the first quarter.

The first quarter ended with a long pass play for Thayer and they started the second quarter with another long run, scoring again. They attempted a two point conversion and were unsuccessful for the second time. Thayer would lead 12-0. Houston started to get their passing attack working, but their drive sputtered. Penalties and punts was the trend for both teams most of the second quarter. However, Houston scored on a big screen pass with about one minute remaining in the half. Thayer lead 12-7 at half.

The trend of penalties and punts for both team continued after coming out of the locker room. Thayer had a touchdown taken away because of a self inflicted penalty. Houston had a major pass play negated because of a self inflicted penalty. Houston started the fourth quarter by faking a punt, but did not get the first down. Thayer’s rushing attack continued to run like a well oil machine. They scored another touchdown and were unsuccessful on the two point conversion again. Thayer lead 18-7. The Thayer defense was able to put pressure on Houston and stifle the passing attack. Houston turned the ball over on downs and Thayer was able to run out the clock.

Thayer won 18-7. Houston falls to 3-2 on the year and 1-1 in the SCA conference.
