Houston Tigers take first loss as Thayer Bobcats come in locked & loaded

Houston Tigers played the Thayer Bobcats on their home field this Saturday September 28th 2024. They took their first loss of the season with a score of 25-13.

1st Quarter: As Thayer receives the ball post coin toss, they take a few carries mainly by Thomas Poole and Zeb Dubois in an attempt to get a 1st down. Houston plays steady defense with some tackles by Layne Seago for The Tigers. Heath Combs for The Bobcats nearly goes in for a touchdown, but it is negated under a holding call. Tigers pick up a 1st & 10 after the get the ball following the punt by Thayer. They get the ball all the way down to the 23 as they pick up a 1st & 10. Thayer attempts to match the defense strategy from the Tigers as there is some good effort to try to get the ball back. Thayer jumps off-side once again and takes another call. Houston ends up fumbling the ball at the 30-yard line under DJ Riley. Dubois gets the ball down to the 18 to be tackled by John Jordan & DJ Riley. Thayer continues to threaten to score as they continue to pick up more yardage. Dubois who is doing most of the running is still tackled. At end of quarter, both teams have yet to score.

2nd Quarter: Dubois gets the ball to Dawson Harris and Thayer goes in for a touchdown with a failed two-point conversion. The lead is 6-0. As Riley throws for the next offensive possession, Thayer intercepts the ball. Houston is luckily able to keep up the defensive pressure. Thayer as the typical offensive strategy continues to play cock and deny The Tigers possession. Dubois goes in for another touchdown bringing the score to 12-0. They go for the extra point and are once again denied on an extra pointer. However, after resuming play on the next offensive possession for the Tigers, Bricen Jordan takes a kickoff return and is able to score bringing the tigers to trail by six. Score is now 12-7 as the Tigers score on the two-point conversion. Thayer plays out the remaining time on offense, attempting to play clock. They do get a turnover on downs towards the end of the Quarter as Houston nearly considers taking a 99-yard field goal. Towards their better judgement, they allow the remaining one-second to pass and go to Halftime.

HALFTIME- Thayer Bobcats: 12/ Houston Tigers: 7

3rd Quarter: After the kick by the Tigers, ball is taken at the 32-yard line by the Bobcats. Dubois is able to take a 1st down for the Bobcats after the ball gets down to the 43- yard line. Bobcats take a 25 yard pass from Dawson Harris to Brayden Prince. Harris is able to get the ball into the in-zone for the Touchdown and score. Thayer tries to go for a two pointer but The Tigers jump off-side, so they end up trying a blind kick and don’t get the ball in for the two. They do however go up 18-7 with about 4:30 to go. The Tigers are able to get a 1st Down after receiving the ball. DJ Riley tries to make a pass to Bricen Jordan but the ball slips out of his hands and is incomplete. Tigers pick up a few yards on 1st & 10 to finish out the Quarter. Quarter ends with Bobcats still leading 18-7

4th Quarter: Houston takes the Tigers on offense. Arthur gets a gain of 4 down to the 18-yard line. This is the case over the next few plays. Arthur hands off the ball to Seago who takes the ball in for a 5-Yard run for a Tiger Touchdown. Bringing the score to 18-13. The Bobcats end up fighting back as they get the ball back on offense as Thomas Poole goes in for a 18-yard touchdown run. Bobcats now take a 25-13 lead. Jordan Arthur ends up dropping the ball as Thayer insists on not letting Houston take the ball back. On a run play, Seago gets the ball down seven yards and manages to break through some tackles. As the clock gets down to the last few minutes, Thayer is back to the position of playing clock to take up the remainder of the game. They keep this promise and end take the win.

FINAL SCORE: Thayer Bobcats: 25/ Houston Tigers: 13
