Mizzou lost at nationally-ranked Kansas in the Border Showdown on Saturday, 73-64. The Tigers move to 7-3 for the 2023-24 campaign, while the No. 2 Jayhawks improve to 8-1.
Sean East II led Missouri with 21 points and Nick Honor scored 17, but the Tigers were without one of their guards, Caleb Grill. Grill injured his non-shooting wrist last Sunday and is expected to miss 5-7 weeks. He averages 8.4 points and nearly six rebounds per game.
The Jayhawks closed out the first half on a 14-0 run started by an Elmarko Jackson 3-pointer to turn a 2-point deficit into a 41-29 halftime lead. Kansas dominated in the paint scoring 42 points down low, but committed 16 turnovers, which kept Missouri in the game in the first half.
Kansas would lead by as many as 18 points in the second frame before a 13-3 Mizzou run pulled the visitors within single digits. Despite the MU effort, Kansas would hit its free throws late and grab the nine-point win, 73-64.
The Tigers travel to Kansas City, Mo. to face off against Seton Hall on Sunday, Dec. 17 at T-Mobile Center. Tip is set for 4 p.m. and the game can be viewed on ESPN.
