Lady Eagles upset the Lady Panthers in first SCA play game of season

The Liberty Lady Eagles traveled to Mountain Grove to take on the Lady Panthers for their first SCA conference play game of the season. Lady Eagles won by a score of 51-49.

1st Quarter: Tip controlled by the Lady Eagles off the hands of Hadley Chowning. Lady Panthers try for a steal, but a two plus a rebound and a good three pointer for Addie Rutledge for the Lady Eagles who take an Early 10-0 lead. The Panthers finally come onto the board after another good jumper by Rutledge for the Eagles. Two points are scored on jumpers for the Panthers by Raylee Stenzel. Lady Panthers to hold it for a bit but taken back by the Lady Eagles for two threes by Ella Phipps to end the quarter as they lead by ten, 17-7

2nd Quarter: Liberty turns over the ball after trying to go back down the floor. Shot is up and good for Stenzel for the Panthers. Rebound and another three pointer for Ella Phipps. Rebound and Stenzel shoots two for the Panthers who. Eagles make it up by four more as another three is shot by Phipps and a nice two point dunk by Ashlynn Henry. Phipps and Stenzel continue to shoot threes, holding their respective teams by ten points, 33-22 at the half.

HALFTIME- Liberty Lady Eagles: 33/ Mountain Grove Lady Panthers: 22

Scoring wise (in the first half):

Hadley Chowning- 11 points, 3 rebounds 2 assists

Ella Phipps-  8 Points, 4 rebounds

Addyson Rutledge- 8 Points

Landry Golden- 6 Points

Korie Lind-  2 Points, 4 rebounds

Ashlynn Henry- 2 points

Jaylee Tharp- 2 Points

*So far the difference maker in the game is the three point scoring; Lady Eagles are 5 out of 8 from the three point line while Lady Panthers are 1 out of 7.

3rd Quarter: Mountain Grove gets the ball to start the second half, stolen by the Liberty Lady Eagles. Lady Eagles almost lose the ball out of bounds but recovered by Chowning. A foul call as Chowning charges and Stenzel shoots two at the Line for the Lady Panthers. Stenzel continues to be hot from the two point line as she is able to cut the Lady Eagle lead to four with under four minutes to go. A three pointer by Delani Ellett for the Lady Eagles & A three by Phipps is good and Eagles go back up by four with 1:35 to go, but a foul call and Golden for the Panthers cuts the lead down to two. While the Lady Eagles continue to show strength on rebounds and shooting the threes, The Lady Panthers are taking advantage of the Lady Eagle defense as they steal it back. A good jumper by Stella Benson for the Lady Panthers, rebound who puts the ball up and in for three. Lady Panthers have now jumped out to six with a 5-0 run. Liberty gets it back but continues to be blocked by the Lady Panthers. They finally get a break on putbacks, primarily by Korrie Lynn. Lady Eagles hang onto the lead at the end of the Quarter, 40-36. 

4th Quarter: Liberty gets the ball to start the Quarter. Hadley Chowning with the first shot which makes her 15th point of the night. Panthers try to recharge on the 5-0 run they ran in the last Quarter, Stenzel shoots and scores on a three which narrows the Lady Eagle lead down to four. Landry Golden who like Hadley Chowning had eleven points in the first half, is continuing to hold strong for the Panthers as she is able to cause some more fouls and turnovers. Golden shoots two from the line and cuts the lead down to two. Rebound Hadley Chowning for the Lady Eagles who makes a pass but loses it out of bounds. Far pass and a wide open three by Raylee Stenzel for the Lady Panthers who now lead by one, 45-44. Rebound Chowning who shoots and scores on the rebound runner. Taken back by the Panthers and shot up and good by Golden. Korie Lind takes it back for the Lady Eagles who scores on another jumper. Basically, Landry Golden is able to score on at least three rebounds in the last 2 ½ minutes of the ballgame. Lady Eagles are trying to hold on but also prevent the Lady Panthers from fouling out either Chowning or Lind. In the end, Lady Eagles are able to hold onto the lead and win by a Final Score of 51-49.
