The Liberty Eagles played the Houston Tigers on the afternoon of February 20, 2024.
Liberty gets the first score of the game. The Eagles hold on to the ball for most of the first quarter of the game, repeatedly scoring on the the Tigers. Half way through the first quarter the Eagles have completely took the game with a score of 10 and the Tigers with a score of 0. The Eagles also beating them in their turnovers, with them having 0 and the Tigers having 4 already. The Tigers then pick up their play and cut the game in half at 10 to 5, having had a 5 point scoring run. Liberty continues to pull ahead of the lagging Tigers never really letting the Tigers have a chance to close the lead between their scores. The first quarter ends with the Eagles far in the lead with 24 to 7.
The second quarter starts off with an amazing play from the Houston Tigers. The score a 3 pointer, hoping to do a major turn around from the slow play of the first quarter and catch up to their competition. The Liberty Eagles don’t let that happen though, they keep the ball to themselves as they strengthen their hold on the ball and the win. Liberty more than doubles their score while Houston struggles to score during the game. Gaines has scored 15 points during the first half of the game. Houston has 13 turnovers to Liberties 1 turnover. The first half of the game end with Liberty still leading with 39 to 13.
Houston really pulls out their game as the third quarter starts, slowly chipping away at the Liberty Eagles’ lead. The Eagles continue to slowly score throughout the third quarter and the Houston Tigers silently stalks up behind, stealing points along the way and closing the lead that Liberty worked on in the first quarter. The Houston Tigers more than double their score as the third quarter’s clock slowly ticks down to zero. The game continues to go on with the two teams fighting for the win and the third quarter ends with Liberty still in the lead at 56 to 30.
To kick off the final quarter of the ballgame, The Eagles score the first basket. The two teams stay even starting off with 4 points scored for each team.The Houston Tigers continue to fight to loosen Liberty’s hold on the win trying to score whenever they can get their hands on the ball. The game ends with the Liberty Eagles’ triumphantly keeping the winning score of 69 to 43.
