The Liberty Lady Eagles made their first-ever appearance in the state tournament Monday night, February 26. Their opponent: the Fatima Lady Comets.
Liberty came into the game with a record of 18-10. Fatima came into the game with a record of 21-6.
Fatima used three-point shots to aid in their 12-8 lead over Fatima after the first quarter.
Fatima had nine turnovers with 2:49 last in the first half, which helped the Eagles get within a point.
Comets led the Eagles 20-19 at halftime.
Fatima jumped out to a 12-point lead before Liberty was forced to take a timeout halfway through the third quarter. The Eagles managed to make up two points by the end of the 3rd. 35-25 Comets in the lead.
In the fourth quarter, the Comets tried to shorten the game by slowing down the rate of play. They quickly lost their ten-point lead, and the Eagles turned it into a two-possession game with three minutes to go.
The Comets adjusted, and pulled away. The Eagles had to foul the Comets repeatedly toward the end of the game, hoping for missed free-throws to make up for the deficit.
It didn’t work.
The Comets defeated the Eagles 48-36, ending the Eagles season.
