COLUMBIA, Mo. – After becoming the first Tiger to hit for the cycle in Southeastern Conference play, Missouri junior outfielder Ross Lovich has been selected as SEC Co-Player of the Week for the period of May 8-14, the league office announced Monday.
Lovich sparked the Missouri offense against Georgia with a pair of multi-hit performances, including the first cycle by a Tiger since Jeff Terrell accomplished the feat on May 5, 1995. On Friday, Lovich went 4-for-5, hitting for the cycle in just seven innings as part of MU’s series-opening, 13-3 win over the Bulldogs. He followed that effort with a 2-for-5 day in which he homered, drove in three runs and scored two more in a come-from-behind 14-12 victory that paved the way to a three-game sweep.
The Overland Park, Kan., who is hitting .325 with four home runs and 19 RBIs overall, becomes the second Tiger in as many weeks to be chosen as SEC Co-Player of the Week following Luke Mann’s selection one week ago. He leads the Tigers with a .340 average during SEC play, while his .638 slugging percentage is second on the club.
