COLUMBIA, Mo. – By vote of the Southeastern Conference head coaches, University of Missouri defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team, it was announced by the league on Thursday.
The St. Louis native played in 11 games with three starts (vs. North Texas, vs. Texas A&M, at Vanderbilt) this season. He totaled 21 tackles, two tackles for loss of eight yards, one sack, one interception and two quarterback hurries.
He recorded seven multi-tackle games with tackles for loss vs. Central Michigan and vs. North Texas. He returned an interception for 40 yards and a touchdown against the Mean Green, Mizzou’s first defensive score of the season.
Mizzou football has accepted an invitation to play in the 2021 Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas. The Tigers will face Army West Point on Dec. 22 (7 p.m. kick, ESPN) at TCU’s Amon G. Carter Stadium.
